Bowling is a sport which has become very popular in Slovakia for the past a few years and has been played by all generations. Probably the most attractive thing about it is its apparent simplicity. What can be difficult about throwing a bowling ball which rolls on the smooth track almost by itself? But just at the first sight. To throw this ball properly – so that it hits the target precisely, it requires accurateness and the right feeling. Those who do this sport actively could tell us a lot about it for sure.

The history of bowling
As many other sports that are nowadays being popular, bowling has also a very long and rich history. There is no doubt about that. Very few people know though, that in the year 1930 a British anthropologist Sir Flinders Petrie found in one of the Egyptian habitats some objects that were with the highest probability used for some kind of pre-historic form of bowling. If this theory is truth, we can say that bowling originated in the year 3200 B.C. In spite of the fact, that there are many opinions on this theory it is more than certain that there was a game in England which was played in the 14th century A.D. which can undoubtedly be considered for the Medieval version of bowling. At that time there were a few versions of the games with skittles and also a few other games, where the players had to bring down various object by throwing a ball. The people from England, Denmark and Germany brought the first versions of bowling to America, where this sport became extremely popular. Its destiny was not simple in this country, though. In the year 1841 in the state Connecticut it was even forbidden by law to play any kinds of games based on this principle. In spite of that, or maybe because of that, it has become so popular and its popularity is still growing. Today, more than 100 million people do this sport actively in more than 90 countries all over the world.
