Komárno
Komárno lies close to the confluence of the rivers Danube and Váh. In Hungarian language it is called „Révkomárom“, just to make a difference from the town with the same name, which is situated in Hungary. The town lies at the left bank of the river Danube and its bigger part is a historical settlement of the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Both towns are joined by a bridge. Thanks to its very convenient location, Komárno has always been an important strategic town. At the times of its greatest glory it managed to managed to resist the attacks of Tatars and Turks. Today, Komárno is a lively town with almost 38 000 inhabitants.
