The history of thermal springs
Mineral water favourably affects locomotion system and diseases related to it. The use of thermal springs in Patince has a long tradition. The documents dated back even to the 13th century contain the information about warm springs with curative effects and about the existence of the spa during the Roman period.
The curative water from the springs in Patince with its good effect on human organism is also mentioned in the works of Matej Bell. Thanks to earl Nedetzky the baths were built in the vicinity of the springs, in which various diseases of upper and lower extremities were successfully cured. On October 10, 1953, by the suggestion of Dr. Ondrej Stollman, the thermal spring in Patince with its vicinity was proclaimed a protected zone. One of the holes is located at the edge of thermal lake, approximately 1 km north-east from the village Patince. The spring was mined in 1953 and it created the lake of a total area of 10 x 20 metres with maximum depth of 2 metres. Another source of mineral water is in the proximity of thermal lake. It is basically a twin hole, built to improve hydro technical parameters (high input speed). The hole is 160 m deep, however, it is only 146 m built-in. Water temperature is 26.9 °C. The third spring rises from the meadow in front of the thermal lake in the direction of open air pools area. The hole was built in 1982 for the purposes of the recreational centre. It is 170 m deep and steel tubing can be still found there. Thermal water from the hole flows thanks to its own pressure. Its temperature reaches 26.2 °C.
